That is such a complicated answer that it will be hard to just give you a few sentences!!!
1. ATTEND the conference would be the best first step!
2. I would encouragingly say that "performing at a comedy club" won't necessarily "compromise your testimony" any more so than attending a show at a club would. I realize you have conviction issues about whether or not we even help a comedy club generate revenue etc... but keep in mind, some comics are called to be a light in the dark places. If that is not your calling, certainly I'd understand that, but it doesn't mean all comics who do go to those places are "compromising their testimony." Worth keeping in mind.
3. I would say if you can't attend open mics at clubs or bars or where they are naturally happening in your area, the only true way to get stage time is to create it yourself!
4. And most importantly, HAVE AN ACT that is solid and marketable PRIOR to getting stage time in places like Churches and Corporations who would book you. HHAHAHAHA. Seems simple, but all too often we rush for the paid gigs prior to having an act worth paying to see. :)
